Welcome To North Dakota
That “obnoxious” truck driver coming up behind me in the left lane kept blowing his horn. I told myself to just ignore him when it hit me, there were the opening notes to Jingle Bells. I smiled and waved as he went by.
Unfortunately the wind sent its’ welcoming blast from the north and then the east. My walking skills were being tested again. 7.6 miles on the second day in this state as I made my way to a rest area which was part of the Teddy Roosevelt National Park.
That’s where I met Margie, a park ranger who didn’t hesitate to give me a ride after she got off work. She would have to go home and get her own personal truck, return to the rest area, and drive me to the next town past hers’ to get me to my next camping spot. During that ride, I learned how people can go through some really tough times and still face life head on with a smile. It made what I was doing pale in comparison.
